Construction Progress Slide Show

During the summer of 2008 Dick Barth and his crew, known as the "Amish Rejects," built our new RTHS Storage Barn. The metal structure is 48 feet long and 38 feet wide with a gambrel roof, representating the look of an early 1900's barn.

The purpose of the Storage Barn is to house our growing collection of historical items and the balance of the memorabilia which was in the original museum above Connell Hardware. It will also give the society the opportunity to rotate our educational and historical displays, in the Heritage Center Museum, adjacent to the barn.

The final city permit was given to the barn in November of 2008. Additional trim will be added in the spring.

Tree Topping
The tree-topping ceremony follows from an old pagan ritual to honor/appease tree gods for providing the building material for construction. The tradition made its way to America via European immigrants. On June 12, 2008, the RTHS Storage Barn was officially topped out. A Buckeye Tree and an American Flag, were hoisted to the very top of the trusses, just put in place.
